PFF ranks Buffalo Bills offensive guard in top 32 in NFL

Connor McGovern will be a starting offensive lineman on the Buffalo Bills’ line, but where is he still in question? I know the team has said they plan to move him to center after releasing Mitch Morse. The difference is that at that time, they had not yet recruited Sedric Van Pran-Granger. Regardless, McGovern will start at either guard or center for the Buffalo Bills, and PFF has McGovern ranked as the 25th best guard for the 2023 season.

“He was also an ever-present figure on the Bills’ offensive line, playing 1,135 snaps during the 2023 regular season, sixth among guards, and starting every game for the team. His pass-blocking rating of 74, 2 ranked 11th.

Focus on professional football

This was McGovern’s first year with the Bills after spending the first four years in Dallas and playing well for the most part. He struggled at times blocking runs, earning a 48.5 grade; however, his pass blocking grade was much better at 74.2. Additionally, despite having a very poor block grade and an overall average of 58.5, he allowed only two sacks all season, 23 pressures and committed only four penalties.

I believe Van Pran-Granger will be the Bills’ starting center when they open the 2024 season, and that would be ideal for Buffalo. Keeping McGovern on guard helps maintain continuity from the start. The fewer changes the Bills make on the line, the better and Josh Allen will be off the line. Having a fresh face at one position, rather than two, will help the line grow and continue to build chemistry with each other. Besides left tackle, center is second in importance and Buffalo had the stability advantage with Morse, but that will change, whether it’s McGovern or Van Pran-Granger, we’ll find out soon enough.
