Man dies, two children hospitalized after car rolls down embankment into Plymouth River – Boston News, Weather, Sports

PLYMOUTH, MASS. (WHDH) – A man died and two children were hospitalized after a vehicle rolled down an embankment and into a river on Route 3 in Plymouth on Friday, officials said.

The car was traveling south when it went off the left side of the road and landed upside down in the Eel River shortly before 5 p.m., Massachusetts State Police said. Firefighters entered the river and used hydraulic tools to free the driver. It took about 20 minutes, Plymouth Fire Department said.

The driver, a 50-year-old man, was flown to a Boston hospital by rescue helicopter, the fire department said. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said Friday evening.

The two passengers, an 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, were taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries, police said.

SKY7-HD discovered a badly damaged white car in the water at around 6:30 p.m.

The left and right lanes were closed for nearly three hours while MassDOT directed traffic, police said.

The accident remains under investigation by the police.
