Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff discusses small business support and reproductive rights during his trip to Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Ahead of President Joe Biden’s upcoming commencement speech at Morehouse College and just after his wife came to visit, second gentleman Doug Emhoff visited Atlanta on Tuesday.

Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, visited Sublime Donuts in Midtown. He spoke with owner Kamal Grant, discussing support for small business owners like himself.

“Small businesses are tough because obviously any business you open is competing with traditional businesses that already exist and have all the capital, all the political influence,” Grant said.

Grant explained that difficulties are particularly prevalent within the Black community, as many struggle to obtain the resources needed to keep their businesses afloat.

“Having access to capital is very difficult in our community. You know, we don’t really have that generational wealth, so we rely on that and actually have access to where to find that capital,” Grant said.

Emhoff’s next stop was The Gathering Spot, northwest of Atlanta. The second gentleman participated in a roundtable discussion with young voters on reproductive rights, which included members of the group Men 4 Choice.

“Given the current situation, I am very nervous, just for the future of my child. The America I grew up in, how would this America be so different? » said DeVon Lewis with Men 4 Choice.

It’s one of several trips the Biden administration is making in hopes of winning the battleground state.

Former President Donald Trump made two trips to Atlanta this year. The most recent was last month.
