Two-year stats show why this season will be different for Chelsea

Two-year stats show why this season will be different for Chelsea

Chelsea finally appear to be heading in the right direction as their opening two goals against West Ham mark a stat that shows progress under Enzo Maresca.

After another disappointing season for the London club, the pressure on Todd Boehly’s shoulders has only increased, with his willingness to spend in the transfer market failing to translate into his performances on the pitch.

There was, however, a glimmer of hope for the Blues at the end of last season when they won their last five league matches in impressive fashion.

Despite feeling like the team had finally clicked, Mauricio Pochettino was sacked as manager and Leicester City’s Maresca took over after guiding the Foxes to the league title.

Although the Italian manager brought in some new faces this summer, including a familiar one in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, the club did not address arguably their weakest position, a new striker.

After countless links with Victor Osimhen, the club decided to trust Nicolas Jackson who now proves his skeptics wrong since he is only behind Erling Haaland in the goals ranking.

The Senegalese striker scored an impressive brace against West Ham on Saturday afternoon, marking an incredible stat that should give all Chelsea fans confidence moving forward.

According to the BBC, this is the first time a Chelsea team has led by two goals in a Premier League away match since 2022.

Maresca will hope to hold on against a shaky West Ham side and claim all three points as the Italian manager has one eye on next month’s brutal schedule.

The Blues are set to face Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal in a terrifying four-game showdown that will truly be the benchmark of their season.
