The mother of the suspected shooter at Apalachee High School called the school, reports the Washington Post

New information has emerged about the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School.

According to a report by The Washington PostThe mother of the suspected shooter called the school just minutes before the incident to warn staff about her son’s behavior.

The report states that the mother, Marcee Gray, had spoken to a school counselor about half an hour before the shooting. Text messages sent by The publisher She asked the counselor to locate and check on her son immediately and expressed her concern about his recent comments about a school shooting that morning.

A school administrator then entered the suspect’s math class at the time, but a misunderstanding occurred involving another student with a similar name. The administrator mistakenly confiscated a backpack belonging to the other student. Neither the suspected shooter nor the student with the similar name were in class at the time. Minutes later, the shooting began.

Colt Gray, 14, is accused of killing two teachers and two students and wounding nine others in Wednesday’s mass shooting. He was arrested minutes after the school shooting. His father, Colin Gray, was also arrested and faces second-degree murder, manslaughter and child abuse charges. He was arrested for allegedly purchasing the gun – an AR-15-style weapon – for his son. Both Colt and Colin Gray made their first court appearances Friday. A preliminary hearing has been set for Dec. 5. Colt Gray also faces additional charges.
