A teenager died and two other minors were injured in a rollover crash on Colorado Highway 184 northwest of Mancos on Tuesday, police officials said.

According to Captain Angela Deguelle of the Colorado State Patrol, the accident occurred near mile marker 15.

The westbound vehicle went off the opposite side of the road, went down an embankment and crossed a ditch, rolling over one and a half times before coming to a stop on County Road R, about 12 miles northwest of Mancos.

Deguelle could not say whether speed played a role in the accident, but said impairment was probably not a factor. The investigation is ongoing.

One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver was taken to a hospital by ambulance, the second passenger was flown to a hospital by helicopter.

The deceased passenger was identified as Jesse “JD” Minor, according to a Facebook post from the Mancos Marshal’s Office on Wednesday. He was the son of Deputy Jesse Minor of the Mancos Marshal’s Office and his wife, Shandra.

The Dolores School District RE-4A announced in a Facebook post on Wednesday that all three were students at Dolores High School and that the two injured teenagers were in “stable condition.”

The Marshal’s Office said the three teenagers were on their way to Dolores for basketball practice at the time of the accident.

Memorial funds have been established at all Dolores State Bank and Four Corners Community Bank branches to support the Minor family.

The district planned a “safe meeting place” with counselors for students and staff from 9 a.m. to noon in the high school and middle school common room.

The county urged people to get help. Axis Health System can be reached at (970) 247-5245, and the Montezuma County Crisis Intervention Program, which is connected through Cortez dispatchers, can be reached at (970) 565-8454. When you call dispatch, ask for CIP.
