GREAT YEAR – The annual Erie Canal Photo Contest is collecting photos for the bicentennial edition of the Erie Canal Calendar in 2025. Entries are accepted through Aug. 30 and must be in horizontal format. Three winners will be selected in four categories: On the Water, Along the Trail, Canal Celebrations and Communities, and Classic Canal. LONG TERM – The Village of Hamburg is celebrating its 150th anniversary this week with five days of activities, starting with a concert from the decades 1874-1924 at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park at Lake and Union streets.

Slow Roll Buffalo will join a leisurely bike ride through the village streets starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday from Hamburg Brewing Co., 6553 Boston State Road. Five bands will play in a second decades concert that begins at 5 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park.

Saturday is village shopping during the day. The gala dinner organized by the chefs of nine restaurants in the village on Saturday evening is sold out. It will end on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a family picnic at Glen Meadows Park on Oakhill Drive. Picnic tickets are $5, include food and drinks and will not be available at the door. MEETING ALERTS – The John F. Kennedy High School Class of 1979 holds its 45th reunion with a happy hour at 4 p.m. July 13 at the original warehouse, 4360 Milestrip Road, Blasdell. Cash bar and catering.
