1 person killed, 2 injured in traffic accident on Route 41 in north Chicago

One person was killed and two others were injured in a serious traffic accident on Route 41 in northern Chicago early Sunday morning, authorities said.

A minivan traveling north on Route 41 was struck by a southbound Hyundai near the 3600 block of Skokie Highway around 2:10 a.m., a North Chicago Fire Department spokesman said.

Authorities said one person was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and two others were taken to nearby hospitals.

The cause and further details of the crash are currently unknown.

Route 41 was closed for several hours while the accident scene was cleared and investigated, authorities said.
