Lake Houston is lowered with heavy rain forecast

Tropical humidity is expected to set in starting Sunday evening, with the odds increasing through the week.

HOUSTON — With rain predicted this week, Lake Houston is lowered by a foot.

Houston Public Works began the descent at 6 a.m. Sunday. They said it takes 24 hours to lower the lake to its new elevation of 41.4 feet.

Due to the decline, people who own property or live on the lake should secure their property.

According to meteorologist Chris Ramirez, tropical humidity will push into Southeast Texas in the coming days. There is a 20% chance on Sunday, which increases to a 60% chance on Monday, an 80% chance on Tuesday and an 80% chance on Wednesday.
