Man charged after sexual acts in front of teenagers at ACPL branch

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A 31-year-old man is being investigated for two felony counts after police say he performed sexual acts in front of a teenage girl at a branch of the Allen County Public Library (ACPL) in April.

Fort Wayne police said they received a complaint that a man inappropriately touched himself in front of a 15-year-old girl at the Shawnee branch near Bishop Luers High School on April 18.

After an investigation, FWPD detectives identified the suspect as Tyquane Stewart. He was taken into custody Wednesday on charges of felony public indecency and distribution of content harmful to minors.

“The Fort Wayne Police Department would like to thank the staff at the Allen County Public Library and the Dr. Bill Lewis Center for Children for their assistance and support during this investigation,” officials wrote in a press release.

In December, 36-year-old Otha Muirhead was charged with solicitation of child sexual abuse after police say he threw a sexually explicit message at a minor at ACPL headquarters in downtown Fort Wayne.

ACPL officials told 21Alive News at the time that their staff was committed to maintaining a safe environment.

“Occasionally they have to deal with these kinds of challenging things, and it can be stressful. I am very grateful for the quality of the people who work here and their commitment to keeping the library safe for all of our users,” said Susan Baier, ACPL executive director.
