ATLANTA – June 4, 2024 – Following a nationally competitive search, Zoo Atlanta is excited to welcome Gina Ferrie, PhD, to the leadership team as Vice President of Collections and Conservation.

Dr. Ferrie joins Zoo Atlanta from Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where she most recently served as Manager of Science Operations. During her more than 16 years with this organization, she also served as research director, population biologist and research associate. His previous professional career in zoology also includes breeding of terrestrial and aquatic species.

Author or co-author of more than 30 peer-reviewed journal publications in applied zoo and aquarium science, biology and conservation, Dr. Ferrie brings a passion for applied, evidence-based scientific practices which will improve the care, well-being and lives of animals. conservation at Zoo Atlanta. In her new role, she will oversee the zoo’s animal care and research divisions while leading Zoo Atlanta’s conservation initiatives with an expert, long-term perspective, consistent with the zoo’s established goals as outlined in the plan conservation strategy of the organization.

Dr. Ferrie holds a PhD in conservation biology from the University of Central Florida, a Master of Science in conservation biology from Columbia University, and a bachelor’s degree in evolutionary and environmental biology from Dartmouth College. His academic teaching experience includes zoo biology and management and population management at the University of Central Florida and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) School of Professional Development.
