Man arrested after attempting to kidnap baby from Louisville hospital

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – A man was arrested by Louisville Metro Police officers Monday after reportedly attempting to remove a newborn baby from a local hospital.

At around 6 p.m., LMPD officers were dispatched to UofL Hospital in downtown Louisville on a report of a man named Christopher Reid attempting to take a baby without permission from doctors, nurses or the mother.

Officers had to take the child away from Reid so hospital staff could provide the baby with the care it needed. As officers took the newborn away, Reid bit one of the officers on the hand, his arrest affidavit states.

After the baby was safely removed, Reid reportedly tightened his boots, tightened his belt, and pushed a table out of the way. When officers asked Reid if he was going to fight, he replied, “Yes.”

Officers attempted to take Reid into custody, but he offered “active resistance” by pulling his hands away and kicking officers, the arrest citation states.

The police managed to get Reid to the ground and handcuff him, but even after he was handcuffed, he said he continued to kick the officers.

According to the arrest warrant, Reid is facing a charge of “domestic violence.” Police are awaiting information from the baby’s mother.

According to police, Reid threatened to harm her after he was released from the hospital.
