What should I look for in a sunscreen brand?

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Before Memorial Day weekend begins, ECMC’s Dr. Pamela Morris joined us to talk sunscreen.

It is important to protect your skin from the sun, which can potentially lead to cancer. Dr. Morris recommends applying sunscreen every two hours and making sure any sun-exposed skin is covered. When swimming, people should consider a time application.

But what type of sunscreen? Dr. Morris recommends something with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. No product will guarantee you complete protection, she says, but an SPF of 30 will give you 96 to 97 percent protection.

There are certain chemicals that Dr. Morris recommends avoiding when choosing sunscreen, and she talks more about them in the video above. Watch it for some helpful tips before spending time outside this weekend.
