Edo speaker suspends three lawmakers over alleged impeachment plans

The Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku on Monday suspended three lawmakers for allegedly conspiring to impeach him and other key officials of the House of Representatives.

The suspended MPs include Mr Donald Okogbe, PDP Akoko-Edo11; Bright Iyamu, PDP Orihonmwon South; and Adeh Isibor, PDP, Esan North East 1.

Resuming the plenary session on Monday, Agbebaku alleged that the suspended members were being influenced by external forces to cause chaos and overthrow the leadership of the House of Representatives.

He also alleged that some persons brought local doctors to the House of Representatives at midnight on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 to cast demonic incantations and cast spells in the assembly complex.

During the raucous session, the three suspended MPs responded: “Mr Speaker, you do not have the right to unilaterally suspend one or more members of the House of Representatives.”

“You have to call for a vote. Let the members vote on the matter,” the embattled lawmakers shouted.
