Highlights this week include the three-day convention known as Comicpalooza, as well as a new Broadway show, the Greater Houston Markets and the latest spring vibes.

  • TUTS presents Disney News at the Hobby Center | From Tuesday May 21 to Sunday May 26 | In progress – The wildly popular musical tells the story of a group of journalists and their allies, who stand up to some of the most powerful editors in New York. This new production of the crowd-pleasing show should be a family favorite. This production runs until Sunday June 2. $40 and up. Hours vary.
  • Idles in concert at White Oak Music Hall | Wednesday 22 May – The Bristol rock band has just released their fifth studio album, Tangkand will bring it to the White Oak crowd when they stop on their Love is the FING tour. $40 and up. 5:30 p.m.
  • Ghosts: do you believe in them? at the House of Blues | Wednesday 22 May – Diving deep into the world of paranormal phenomena, Dustin Pari shares ghost stories through an interactive journey of encounters, mind-boggling phenomena and first-hand accounts. $30 and up. 7 p.m.
  • Dancing in the Street: Motown & More Revue at Miller Outdoor Theater | From Thursday May 23 to Saturday May 25 | FREE –Groove the Motown sounds of Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner and the best classics from the 60s to 90s. 8:15 p.m.
  • Apollo Chamber Players presents Muted at Rice University | Friday May 24 – Critically and internationally acclaimed, the musicians of Apollo Chamber close their season with a concert consisting of three works for string ensembles, including the commissioned world premiere. Forgotten Dutch melodies by Dutch composer Joey Roukens. $35; $10 for students with ID. Questions and answers at 7 p.m.; concert at 7:30 p.m.

  • Comicpalooza at the George R. Brown Convention Center | From Friday May 24 to Sunday May 26 – Don your favorite hero costume and head downtown for a weekend of cosplay, autographs, and comic books. Enjoy family-friendly activities, listen to live panel discussions, shop from local creators, browse pop culture memorabilia and much more. Day passes range from $43 to $64, depending on the day; weekend passes start at $90. Hours vary.
  • Downtown Market Square Park Farmers Market | Saturday May 25 | FREE – Shop for fresh produce, baked goods, artisan goods and more in the heart of downtown at this latest spring market that brings vendors from across the region to Bayou City. Family- and pet-friendly, the market also features live music from local artists on the Turnip the Beet stage. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • 45th Annual Pan-African Cultural Festival at SHAPE Community Center | Saturday May 25 | FREE – Join the SHAPE Community Center in the Third Ward for a day filled with dynamic performances, delicious food, art from across the African diaspora, and celebration of Pan-African culture. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Market in the garden of the B-52 brewery | Saturday May 25 | No coverage – This unique market brings together a selection of artisan vendors in the shade of the imposing trees of the Conroe Brewery. Browse artisanal products while sipping suds straight from the tap. From noon to 5 p.m.
  • Adult owl on the prowl at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Saturday May 25 – The final owl hunt of the season features an up-close encounter with live owl ambassadors, plus nighttime hikes and light snacks, Saint Arnold’s beer, coffee and hot chocolate. 16 years and over. $50. 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Pawtraits for a cause at Axelrad | Sunday May 26 – Two years after its last holding, this event paints a magnificent family portrait of your best four-legged friend. Bring your pet (on leash) and help raise money for Heart of the Underdog. $35. From noon to 4 p.m.
  • Black Queer Book Fair and Party at Kindred Stories | Sunday May 26 | FREE – Kick off the Pride festivities at this inaugural event welcoming the LGBTQIA+ community with authors, books and more at Third Ward Bookstore. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Jazzy Sundays: Cécile McLorin Salvant in concert at Discovery Green | Sunday May 26 | FREE – Lose yourself in the passionate music of the award-winning jazz artist who bridges musical genres during another edition of Jazzy Sundays in Downtown. 5 p.m.
  • USPA Congress Cup at Houston Polo Club | Sunday May 26 – Enjoy a great day of equestrian polo with all the bells and whistles, including a polo competition, players’ parade, champagne stomping and trophy presentation. $18 and up. 5 p.m.
  • Tomorrow X Together in concert at Minute Maid Park | Sunday May 26 – The immensely popular K-Pop group has been building their hit list since 2019 and is set to deliver some of their latest tracks, including the theme for the 2024 anime TV series, Solo Upgrade. $49.50 and up. 7:30 p.m.
