Arrest made in hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist in North County

OCEANSIDE, CA – A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed a woman in March in North County San Diego.

According to the Oceanside Police Department, Tracey Gross was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of State Route 76 and Singh Way in Oceanside on March 17 at approximately 11:35 p.m.

Police said Gross was flown to a local trauma center in critical condition. A heavily damaged bicycle was found about 2 miles down the road, near the intersection of SR-76 and College Boulevard.

In an update Friday, Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey said Gross died the following day.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and remained at large until Friday, Bussey said. Christian Howard, a 26-year-old Riverside resident, was arrested at his workplace in Corona around 9 a.m. Friday. He was charged with suspicion of aggravated negligent homicide and hit-and-run resulting in death.
