Pre-trial detention requested for hospital director and police officers in rape and murder case

Former director of RG Kar Hospital Sandip Ghosh and officer-in-charge of Tala police station Abhijit Mondal were booked by the CBI in connection with the rape and murder of a doctor at the medical facility.

An official said that a three-day remand for the accused would be sought in the Sealdah court.

The CBI, which is investigating the case, filed additional charges of tampering with evidence against Ghosh, who is currently in judicial custody, and arrested Mondal on Saturday evening.

Mondal is accused of, among other things, tampering with evidence and delaying the registration of the FIR after he failed to give satisfactory answers when questioned by the CBI.

Ghosh was arrested on September 2 on charges of financial irregularities at the hospital. A contingent of security personnel has been deployed outside the Sealdah court. The postgraduate intern’s body was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 and three people have been arrested so far in connection with the case.
