VB: Herman completes recruiting class with addition of Sa’Myah Medford

Houston, Texas – Head Coach of Houston Christian University Trent Herman The Huskies announced Monday the completion of their recruiting program with the addition of new recruit Sa’Myah Medford. The Huskies will welcome her as part of a new nine-player class when preseason camp begins Aug. 8 ahead of the 2024 season.

Medford joins HCU after spending her freshman campaign at Louisiana Tech. She appeared in 18 matches for the Bulldogs, averaging 1.1 kills per match. She finished the season with 22 blocks and finished strong late in the season, averaging 1.5 kills over her final five matches of the season. That stretch included career-highs with eight kills and four blocks at Liberty on Nov. 3.

The 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Mansfield, Texas, was a three-year letterwinner at Lake Ridge High School, averaging 3.1 kills per game as a senior and earning all-district honors. She plans to major in kinesiology.

“We are extremely excited to add Sa’Myah to our new class. The fact that she has spent a year at university and brings her knowledge and experience was a big factor in our decision to have her join our program.”

Medford is the ninth recruit and only transfer recruit for Herman and his staff, and will join an incoming freshman class that includes Katy Barger, Bianca Byerly, Ravyn Dash, Peyton Fadal, Avery Psencik, Chloe Richards, Jade Smith and Savanna Stevens. The eight recruits represent the largest freshman class since Herman began his tenure at HCU.

These nine players will look to replace a quintet of seniors lost from the 2023 squad: Ellie Wipf, Anna Gadway, Kaley Feris, Mollee Henicke And Jaleesa CaroccioThe Huskies finished 19-13 overall and 13-5 in the Southland and advanced to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament.
