Woman injured in accident with cement mixer | News

A Somerset woman was flown out for treatment of her injuries after walking under a cement mixer.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 9:14 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, officers responded to a report of a personal injury crash involving a cement mixer and a Hyundai Santa Fe on Ky. 192 in eastern Pulaski County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Peggy Lockaby, 66, of Somerset, was traveling westbound on Kentucky 192 when a cement mixer driven by Levi Perkins, 29, of Somerset, backed out of a driveway onto Kentucky 192 and drove directly into Lockaby’s path. According to the sheriff’s office, Peggy Lockaby’s SUV ended up under the cement mixer, trapping her in her vehicle under the mixer.

Lockaby was freed from her vehicle by rescue workers. She was taken from the scene of the accident by helicopter and flown by air evacuation to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. The extent of her injuries is currently unknown, according to the sheriff’s office.

There were no other passengers in the SUV.

The cement mixer belongs to Smyrna Ready Mix of Smyrna, Tennessee, which has a local branch, according to the sheriff’s office. The cement mixer driver, Perkins, was not injured. There were no other passengers in the cement mixer.

Along with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Somerset/Pulaski County EMS, White Lily Volunteer Fire Department, Pulaski County Rescue Squad, Special Response Team and Hayes Knob Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

The accident investigation is being conducted by Deputy Ron Golden of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.
