Suspect luring children enters home through unlocked door and sexually assaults teenager: York-Toronto Police

A suspect attempting to lure children entered a York Region home through an unlocked door and then sexually assaulted a 15-year-old victim, police said.

York Regional Police said officers were called to a home in Whitchurch-Stouffville on Sunday for a burglary.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m.

Police said officers discovered that the 15-year-old victim and the suspect knew each other. “However, investigators are still investigating how the suspect met the victim.”

“As the suspect and the victim began communicating, the suspect expressed interest in visiting the victim’s residence,” police claim.

The 15-year-old was allegedly sexually abused.

Police said shortly after the suspect entered the home, a neighbor notified the homeowner that an unknown pickup truck was parked in the driveway and someone was walking around with a flashlight.

“When the homeowner went outside to investigate the truck, the suspect exited the home and attacked the homeowner,” police said.

The homeowner suffered minor injuries as a result of the “brief altercation,” police said.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

Police said officers on Monday charged 37-year-old Fabio Duarte of Bradford with assault, sexual battery, sexual assault, solicitation of sexual contact, luring a person under the age of 16 by means of telecommunications and unauthorized entry into a dwelling.

“Investigators appeal to anyone who has recently had contact with the suspect and encourage them to contact police as soon as possible,” officials said.
