From May 31 to June 2

It’s not officially summer yet, but it’s here in all the ways that matter. With kids out of school and warmer temperatures already here, kick off the season by heading to one or more Atlanta-area events planned for the weekend. From the Atlanta Pride Run 5K to the Chattahoochee Nature Center’s Flying Colors Butterfly Festival, there are plenty of fun activities to choose from.

Check out the following 15 things to do in metro Atlanta this weekend:

Downtown Atlanta

Atlanta Pride 5K Run

8 a.m. Sunday, June 2. $45 until May 30 with a price increase thereafter. Piedmont Park, Charles Allen entrance on 10th Street, Atlanta.

Take part in this run designed to help fund LGBTQIA+ organizations and support local HIV and AIDS charities. It’s a qualifier for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Peachtree Road Race.

Meow-ket Bark

11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 1 (rain date Sunday, June 2.) Free admission. The Lawn at Uptown Atlanta, 500 Lindburgh Drive NE, Atlanta.

Shop at an artists’ market featuring pet-centric treasures and from vendors selling pet products. Uptown’s Chow a la Carte pop-up chefs will serve up globally inspired bites, and the first 50 humans in line will receive a free tennis ball.

David Spade: Catch Me Inside

Cobb

How sweet the sound is

Enjoy a gospel competition featuring choirs, soloists, dance ensembles and spoken word artists.

Bark in the park

Bring your well-behaved pet for story time for pets and children, pet vendors, shows, adoptions and awards/prizes for best costume, most pet exotic/unusual and more.

Country of Braves 5K

Bib collection opens at 6:00 a.m., race starts at 7:30 a.m. Saturday June 1st. Home Run Porch Ticket Package for $70, Grandstand Reserved Ticket Package for $60 and Dash for $25 through May 31 and $30 on race day. Discounts for Atlanta Track Club members. Truist Park, 755 Battery Ave. SE, Atlanta.

Run through the streets surrounding Truist Park before returning to the ballpark and finishing the race on the field. Registration for 5K tickets (ages 8 and up) includes a short-sleeve t-shirt and a ticket to a Braves game.

DeKalb

Fernbank…but later

Get ready for a night at the museum, featuring weird science activities including sound experiments, dry ice bubble formations, investigations into electricity and much more. All ages are welcome and adult beverages are available for purchase (for guests 21 and older), as well as non-alcoholic drinks and snacks.

Salute to Black Music Month

2 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturday June 1st. Free. New Wall Street Black Market, 8109 Mall Parkway, Stonecrest. 770-559-9610.

Celebrate Black Music Month with live music from Queen Aheisha, TreVante, J Saxx and Joe Gable. A pop-up historical exhibit on the Lithonia Country Club and black music during the Jim Crow South, as well as local vendors and stores, will also be featured.

Free First Saturday — Beautiful Bees

Cars for causes

Discover cars of all years, makes and models, and enjoy music, food, children’s activities and a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds from the event will go toward summer camp scholarships.

Alpharetta Brew Moon Festival

25th Annual Flying Colors Butterfly Festival

Jazz, blues and barbecue

Lawrenceville Movie Club: “Labyrinth”

Come early to participate in Be Active Gwinnett’s fun activities, including obstacle courses, hoops, giant tunnels, pop-up football, junior golf and flag football, and stay to watch “Labyrinth,” the story about a young girl who must navigate her way through a fantasy maze to save her brother from the Goblin King.
