1 dead and 10 injured in jeepney accident in Rizal

LUCENA CITY – A jeepney passenger died and ten others were injured when their vehicle lost brakes while traveling down a downhill stretch of road in Tanay, Rizal on Friday, August 23.

Police in Region 4A reported on Saturday (August 24) that the jeep driven by Feliciano Eugenio was going downhill in Barangay (village) Sampaloc at around 12:45 p.m. when the accident occurred.

The jeep was loaded with at least 30 employees of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Development.

The vehicle crashed into a concrete gutter, drove over a grassy area and finally came to a stop about 20 meters from the road.

The driver and ten of the passengers sustained injuries and were taken to the Tanay General Hospital and the Rizal Provincial Hospital System in neighboring Morong town for treatment.

The 44-year-old passenger Antonio Libutan died on the way to the hospital.

Charges are being brought against the driver.
