Houston Texans rookie CB Kamari Lassiter improves under CJ Stroud

The Houston Texans started their draft this offseason with Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter, and he’ll be able to face last year’s first-round pick, CJ Stroud, in practice throughout the year.

Lassiter, like Stroud, has the potential to become a plug-and-play player and make an immediate impact for Houston. Facing Stroud in practice has helped Lassiter progress as he enters his first training camp.

“It makes me so much better because my technique has to be solid on every play because it’s two-in-one. I’m one-on-one with the receiver and then I have another matchup with the quarterback, and the quarterback is elite,” Lassiter said. “So just knowing that if I make one mistake or one mistake too long, it can be over because it doesn’t matter who I’m playing against, whether it’s Stefon, Nico (Collins), Tank (Dell), (John) Metchie, Noah (Brown), it doesn’t matter. Those guys are elite. So I have to be elite at the same time.”

Stroud has talked about the concept of “iron sharpens iron” before, and here’s another example. Stroud’s level of play in practice allows his teammates to be better prepared for Sunday’s game, which is crucial for a franchise quarterback.

If Lassiter can learn a trick or two from playing against Stroud in training camp and practicing throughout the season, he’ll only get better as the weeks go by.
