An aspiring 18-year-old Western Australian AFL football player has died in a car crash in Perth.

The vehicle then collided with a black Jeep Patriot SUV that was traveling in the opposite direction, eastbound.

Three other passengers in the vehicle, along with Campo, were taken from St John WA to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment of various injuries.

The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital.

The 26-year-old driver and 27-year-old passenger of the Jeep were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital with minor injuries.

On Sunday, Campo’s father, Daniel Campo, said their family had been “torn apart” since learning of the horror crash.

“Earlier today our wonderful son Nick passed away in a tragic car accident. Our lives have been torn apart. We are 18 years old and have a future where so much hope has been taken away from us. We pray that the other occupants of the car involved are OK,” Mr Campo wrote on Facebook.

South Fremantle CEO Cameron Britt also expressed his condolences to the Campo family and said the club was “deeply shocked” by the tragedy.

“The South Fremantle Football Club is deeply saddened to hear of an overnight motor vehicle accident… which resulted in the tragic death of South Fremantle footballer Nick Campo,” he said in a statement.

“We are a club in deep shock and our full attention is focused on supporting our players, staff and their families in these tragic circumstances.

“We ask that everyone involved be given the appropriate space and respect for their grief.”

The Railways Football Club Kalgoorlie also shared the news with its fans on Sunday.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that Railways Football Club pays tribute and respect to Nick Campo who died in a car crash last night,” the club wrote on social media.

“Nick started his junior football career at Railways and played for the Colts at South Fremantle FC.

“Nick was a beloved friend to many at Railways.

“A life full of promise that ended far too soon, as Nick only recently turned 18.”

Campo had played four games for the Colts this season, including the club’s loss to Claremont last weekend.

The rising star was one of the best on the pitch with 26 possessions during his club’s win over East Perth in round 13.
