Atlanta Freedom Bands celebrates the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with music from French composers and selections from the Olympic soundtrack. The 70-member AFV orchestra will present several previously unreleased tracks in Atlanta as well as pieces that express the excitement of sports with their upcoming “Gay Paris!” concert on Saturday June 15.

Francophiles and fans of good music will enjoy this unique lineup, which includes guest singer Rachelle Barr, who will evoke the romantic days of French cabaret with songs made popular by Edith Piaf. The concert will also feature a work from the AFB Student Composer Residency Program: “Semper Incendeno” by Matthew P. Cline, an undergraduate music student at Princeton University.

“Excitement is building for the Paris Olympics next month,” Cliff Norris, director of marketing and development at AFB, said in a statement. “The Olympic Games have played a very important role in the history of Atlanta. As an Atlantan, I can’t wait to see all the amazing things the organizers in Paris are planning this summer. At AFB, we are also excited to connect our music and the history of our city to the pageantry and competition that will take place in the City of Lights.

“Gay Paris!” » will take place on June 15 at 7 p.m. at Ponce and Highland Church (1085 Ponce de Leon Ave NE). Tickets are $20 and are available at atlantafreedombands.com.
