The Helldivers 2 patch secretly reveals that when we killed 2 billion bugs in a day, it was actually a bug

A new day for democracy, a new Helldivers 2 patch. However, this game may be receiving a more muted reception than usual as both Arrowhead Game Studios and the game’s players are licking their wounds following a major controversy over Sony account linking last week. A fall that ended there a gigantic turnaround, Corpses on the streetAnd a reverse review bombing.

The drama is so high that you might forget there’s still a galactic war going on, and Arrowhead’s latest patch fixes a few annoyances that have cropped up over time, as well as including a quiet reveal.

Remember how the hell divers were destroyed together two billion bugs in less than 24 hours? What a great day for democracy, but even then some were wondering whether game master Joel had put his thumb on the scale to help with this important mission. Appropriately, it turned out that there was a bug in the system:

“For large orders with the ‘killing task’, the score is now recorded correctly. Previously, the entire squad’s kills were counted once for each player, which meant the score was multiplied by the number of people in the mission; this has now been changed.”

Well well well. So the game multiplied the total number of squad kills by the number of players in a given mission, artificially increasing the number of bug kills by three times. Killing half a billion terminids just doesn’t seem all that impressive, but next time we’ll at least know we did it right.

Elsewhere, the Eruptors’ shrapnel effect was removed and replaced with explosive damage following widespread reports of Helldivers blowing themselves and their teammates up all too regularly in a wide area. Another unintended weapon effect, the Punisher plasma rifle bouncing off your own energy shield, was amusing but has also been fixed.

For reasons known only to Arrowhead, Shriekers have increased their sight and hearing range, although they can detect you from a considerable distance. And there are a few significant nerfs that I’m not too happy about, most notably “Hell Divers can no longer land on tall rocks in ‘Horde Defense Missions'” and “Hell Divers can no longer land on beetle pillars.” in the “Disable Terminid Control System” missions. Landing on high ground and blowing enemies away from relative safety is a perfectly valid tactic!

This patch introduced its own issues, which are now resolved. The short version is that the patch arrived yesterday and fixed a whole bunch of crashes, including one that I kept getting when I tried to shut down the game. In fact, so many crashes were fixed that it managed to introduce a number of new ones, and players found their client to be much less stable than before the patch. Arrowhead today has released a hotfix This seems to have prevented most of these crashes: I just started the game and it runs fine.

Additionally, there are a number of optimizations to the friend display, social menu, a fix to an issue that allowed non-hosts to kick players out, and a list of known issues that are being worked on. Among these, I have to admit that “Helldiver may not be able to get up from a crouch when surrounded by enemies” seemed like a feature since the blows can really be quite brutal, although it’s still annoying , that enemies who bleed out “make no personal progress.” Orders and Eradicate Missions. Oh, and currently “explosions don’t break limbs (except when you fly into a rock)” – so get ready for everyone to start whining about grenades in a few weeks.

Until the Sony accounts misstep, Helldivers 2’s launch was overwhelmingly successful, and thanks to its simultaneous PC release, it’s already PlayStation’s The seventh highest-grossing game in US history. The game’s next Warbond arrives tomorrow, making slowdown effects a thing of the past “Motivational shocks”while in the larger galactic war there is a question that concerns me and others: Why does an entire planet turn green?
