Erin Young has owned Red Buffalo Coffee & Tea in Silverthorne for 14 years, but she was ready to move from owner to regular.

On May 16, Young handed over the keys to Red Buffalo to store manager Amron Myers.

Myers has been with Red Buffalo for five years. A mother of two, she has worked in the coffee industry for 20 years and has long aspired to own her own coffee shop.

“It’s insane to come into this position and be offered the perfect coffee,” Myers said. “The machines are great. The science behind coffee is well respected here, and the community around it is great.

Myers said one of his favorite things about Red Buffalo is the longtime regulars who have been sitting in the same spots in the cafe for about a decade. Young said Red Buffalo’s community feel is one of the things she’s most proud of, because it’s ultimately the reason she opened a cafe in the first place.

“I grew up here as a kid and everyone would go to another town in the county to meet their friends,” Young said. “We just didn’t have something like this, and this was my opportunity to create it.”

Young wanted to make sure the place retained the feeling of a community under new ownership, so she sold to a local. She said “locals selling to locals” is a feeling the Summit County community values. She pointed to the recent sale of Abbey’s Coffee in Frisco, which was just sold by the VerSchure family to the Tharp family, two families who have long called Summit County home.

“This is coming from people who have been in the county for 30 years, creating the next iteration of something that will continue in the county for the next 30 years,” Young said. “Locals selling to locals supports our local businesses. »

Myers said she doesn’t plan to change much at Red Buffalo. Most of the changes, she said, will be cosmetic. She plans to continue offering the same baked goods, coffee, tea and bagels, although she may add her signature tiramisu to the menu. Myers plans to add a sofa and a small space where families with young children can relax. Myers also plans to transform the back patio into a fairy garden that children can relax in as well.

Young said she was excited about the idea of the fairy garden because she thought it would be a great place to revive the story time that was held at the North Branch of the Summit County Library during the summers.

For now, Myers plans to keep Red Buffalo’s hours the same. She plans to keep the venue open later this summer and for select events.

Red Buffalo is open Monday to Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sundays, it is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Red Ruffalo is located at 358 Blue River Parkway in Silverthorne.
