1 person shot near Long Beach LIRR station

Multiple sources confirmed to News 12 that a person was shot near the LIRR station in Long Beach.

The crowd became so large that Long Beach police had to request assistance from Nassau County police around 6 p.m. for safety reasons.



After the police cleared the beach, the group, consisting mostly of young people, took to the streets.


In recent years, there have been repeated clashes when large crowds have gathered on the Long Beach boardwalk.


Riptides stated that the closure was necessary due to the chaos caused by the crowds.


The MTA announced that the Long Beach section of the LIRR between Long Beach and Island Park is closed at the request of police while the investigation continues.

It is not clear whether anyone was arrested.
