3 Atlanta street racing suspects arrested, more arrests pending, police say

The Atlanta Police Department held a press conference Sunday afternoon to combat illegal street racing in the city.

Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said the department will continue to crack down on disruptors who engage in street racing with their cars, bodies or by recording the activities.

“You don’t have to be in a car to be charged,” Schierbaum said.

He said even posting about the event on social media or inviting others to attend is considered a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Atlanta police made a series of arrests in connection with a street racing incident on June 8, 2024.

Schierbaum said Saturday evening that three people were arrested in connection with an incident that occurred overnight. A fourth arrest is reportedly in progress. None of the suspects live in the city of Atlanta.
