Suspect in drug investigation dies after Wilmington police shoot him

A suspect in a drug investigation who was seriously injured by Wilmington police has died.

A suspect in a drug investigation who was seriously injured by Wilmington police has died.

A man who was shot by Wilmington police during a drug raid last week has succumbed to his injuries.

According to Wilmington police, officers attempted to execute an arrest warrant for 27-year-old Malik Samuell Thompson at a home in the 900 block of South 11th Street on May 22 as part of a drug investigation.

After Thompson called out to him over a loudspeaker and threw a diversionary device through the window of the house, police say Thompson began shooting at police. Officers returned fire, seriously wounding Thompson.

Brandon Shope, communications specialist with the Wilmington Police Department, confirmed that Thompson succumbed to his injuries.

According to police, illegal drugs and a weapon were later found at the crime scene.
