Pay attention to the weather, starting Wednesday evening

A system will begin moving into Georgia late Wednesday, lasting through Thursday morning. Expect a line of storms coming from the north around 6 a.m. in the northern part of the state.

The bulk of these showers and thunderstorms will extend into the Atlanta metro area by midday.

Risk of strong storms

Northwest and far north Georgia will be below Level 2 of 5, or slight risk, Wednesday through Thursday morning.

The remainder of the viewing area, including Atlanta, will be at Level 1 risk.

The biggest threats from storms will be damaging winds, hail and short-term heavy rains.

Forecast for Mother’s Day Weekend in Atlanta

Thursday morning’s storms will help calm the state down a bit, providing a forecast closer to that of May. Highs will be in the mid 70s and lows in the mid 50s under mostly sunny skies.
