Four girls stabbed to death in attack at Braintree cinema, police said

Four girls were taken to Boston hospitals with stab wounds after they were attacked by a man at a Braintree movie theater on Saturday night, police said. The attacker may also have been involved in another attack in Plymouth, police said.

The four girls who were stabbed in the cinema were between the ages of 9 and 17. Police described their injuries as non-life-threatening.

According to police, the man entered the AMC Braintree 10 on Grandview Avenue around 6 p.m., walked past the ticket counter and into one of the theaters, where he encountered the four girls.

“Without saying anything and without warning, he suddenly attacked and stabbed the four young women,” Braintree police said in a statement. “The attack appeared to be unprovoked.”

The man then ran out of the cinema and drove away in a black SUV, police said.

Investigators were able to retrace the attacker’s steps using video footage and obtained the vehicle’s license plate number. The license plate and vehicle description were passed on to police, and a short time later a vehicle matching the description was reported in Plymouth in connection with “a similar attack,” police said.

State police pursued the vehicle until it crashed in Sandwich, Braintree police said. The driver was taken into police custody, according to the Braintree Police Department.

According to police, there “appears” to be a connection between the attack in Braintree and a robbery in Plymouth.

State police did not immediately respond to requests for further information.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
