Elderly man arrested for raping 16-year-old girl in Shahdol in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh

Police have arrested a 69-year-old man on suspicion of raping a young girl in Shahdol district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Sunday.

The incident occurred on August 14 within the premises of Beohari police station and was reported to the police the next day, he said.

The man allegedly raped the 16-year-old girl after finding her alone at home, said Arun Pandey, in-charge of Beohari police station.

The girl and her family members contacted local police on August 15 and filed a complaint, he said.

The accused was arrested on August 16 and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official added.
