Several airlines are suspending flights to Lebanon for fear of an escalation between Israel and Hezbollah

Fearing an escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, several airlines announced on Monday that they would suspend their flights to Lebanon after at least twelve civilians, mostly children and teenagers, were killed in a rocket attack on a soccer field in the Golan Heights on Saturday.

The fear stems from Israel’s promise to avenge Saturday’s attack. The country has threatened to launch a military operation to impose a heavy price on Hezbollah. Among the airlines suspending flights to Lebanon is Lufthansa. The company will suspend flights to Beirut until August 5 as a precautionary measure.

According to a report by the Xinhua news agency, Air France and Transavia France have suspended flights to the above-mentioned destination on Monday and Tuesday.

“The company is constantly monitoring developments in the geopolitical situation in the areas to which its aircraft fly and over which it flies in order to ensure the highest level of flight safety,” said a spokesman for the Air France-KLM group. The group owns both airlines.

Flights by Royal Jordanian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Aegean Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines to Beirut have also been suspended.

Meanwhile, several countries, including the USA and India, have issued travel warnings for Lebanon.

“The security situation in Lebanon remains complex and can change rapidly. The U.S. Embassy also reminds U.S. citizens to read the current travel advisory, which urges U.S. citizens to reconsider travel to Lebanon,” the U.S. Embassy in Beirut said.
