Former Houston Texans player shoots head coach

One of the biggest surprises this offseason came when the Houston Texans opted not to draft Steven Nelson, a former team captain and one of the team’s best cornerbacks. He started 16 of 17 games and earned a Pro Football Focus rating of 71.9. He was an important part of the defense and a name that surprised us all when he was allowed to walk.

The current free agent doesn’t yet have a new team for 2024, but he’s certainly not done with the Texans yet. At least, it’s not over with the team’s head coach, DeMeco Ryans. On his Instagram page, via Dylan Delgatto on Twitter/X, Nelson apparently took a photo of Ryans and got quite personal with the language used.

Many Houston residents are currently without food and power due to a strong storm that hit the area earlier this week and many have begun asking anyone they can for help. This prompted Nelson to use some rather foul language to target Texans head coach Ryans, calling the club’s leader a “dud milkman.”

After another discussion about his information, calling him a “meat head”. It appears Nelson has a long-running feud with Ryans that is seemingly one-sided.

What shouldn’t be lost, however, is that even though the comments are a few days old now, with camp underway it will be interesting to see if anyone else has any latent issues with Ryans. It’s possible that this is just a one-off situation, with a disgruntled ex-employee who wasn’t rehired for a very obvious reason.

Or, it could be something more significant, with Nelson not being an outlier but the first in a line of disgruntled current players and former players making waves. We don’t know if Nelson is just being angry or if he’s lashing out for another reason. That being said, we will be monitoring things closely and making sure everything is happening as it should.
