Off-duty Houston police officer arrested after crash involving drunk driver |  Texas

PORTER, TX — An off-duty Houston police officer was arrested in the early hours of May 18, 2024, following a single-vehicle rollover in the 22000 block of FM 1314 in Porter, according to the Houston Police Department’s office. sheriff of Montgomery County.

Officers arrived on scene around 2 a.m. and found the vehicle’s occupants, Norma Miranda Estrada and Adan Lopez, already being treated in the back of an ambulance for their injuries sustained in the crash. Estrada, the driver, was found to be intoxicated and was later taken into custody for drunk driving. She was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

Lopez, identified as an off-duty Houston police officer, was arrested for contempt of public office and unlawful carrying of a weapon. According to deputies, Lopez consistently refused to comply with instructions and interfered with the investigation during Estrada’s field sobriety tests.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Estrada was wearing his seat belt during the crash, while Lopez was not. This information helped determine who was driving the vehicle. Lopez suffered multiple facial injuries in the crash and was treated by emergency medical services before being transported to a local hospital. He was then taken to the Montgomery County Jail.

The Houston Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division was notified and went to the hospital to meet with Lopez before he was transported.
