Houston Named Top Moving Destination by Penske Truck Rentals

Four Texas cities made the top eight in the rankings. San Antonio followed Houston with second place and Dallas also ranked No. 6. Austin placed eighth.

Aside from Houston, which already held the top spot, the other three Texas cities all improved from the previous year’s ranking.

Charlotte, Atlanta and Las Vegas round out the top five.

Penske also surveyed people about why they decided to move in the past five years. The top three reasons given were proximity to family, low cost of living and a desire for more space.

Houston may be booming in the real estate market, but when it comes to visitor numbers, a new report from Clever Real Estate and Rabbu.com claims the Bayou City isn’t ideal when it comes to ‘invest in short-term rentals.

Among the 50 largest metro areas in the country, Houston ranks fourth worst in the 2024 short-term rental market. San Jose, California was the worst, with San Antonio third and worst in Texas .

Houston and Riverside, California, are tied for the lowest Airbnb occupancy rate at 33%.

Three Florida cities – Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville – occupied the top three spots on the list.
