Nerd Scene: Dragon Snack Games

Dragon Snack Games has been a mainstay of the Western New York gaming community for some time now. Ask any local gamer about the best shops in the area and they’ll surely list Dragon Snack as one of their must-haves. After a few visits to their store, the reason is pretty clear.

Located on Maple Road, across from Boulevard Mall, Dragon Snack Games specializes in board games, dice, miniatures, model painting, collectible card games and accessories, tabletop role-playing games, and Moreover. What sets this place apart from other local game stores is the wide variety and quantity of everything they have amassed.

This is probably one of the greatest game stores I’ve come across during my nerdy explorations of WNY. There is a huge wall of board games to choose from, in addition to several other shelves filled with a variety of boxed treasures. From Smash Up to Carcassonne, they pretty much have it all. What’s especially cool is that they also offer expansion packs for many of the games they sell. Stores usually focus on the base game and maybe a few expansions at most, but that’s nothing like what I saw at Dragon Snack. I was able to grab several expansions for King of Tokyo and saw a plethora for Dixit, Dominion and more.

Dragon Snack is a solid place to visit for those looking for collectible card games. Pokémon, Yu Gi Oh!, Digimon, Magic the gathering, Star Wars Unlimited, etc. can all be found there. They also offer accessories for these games, like card sleeves, playmats, and game boxes. It’s a dream come true for the local trading card game community.

What makes this even better is their ample amount of table space for games. There is room at the back of the shop for several different groups to participate in their own games, whether it’s a board game, a collectible card game, a Tabletop RPG or any other type of game they desire. The chairs in this back play area are particularly comfortable, for what it’s worth.

While you can head to Dragon Snack to shop or play games whenever you want (provided they’re open), they also host a number of events. Poké Mondays, casual Magic the gathering Commander’s evenings, Thursday evening Yu Gi Oh!, previews for upcoming TCG sets, are examples of events that fill their event calendar.
