Legacy of American Legion Buffalo Soldiers Honored at Annual Prayer Gathering

On May 11, 2024, Buffalo Soldiers from American Legion Post 241 in Joliet were celebrated by the Firestarting Prayer Ministry and surrounding churches, during the organization’s annual prayer rally for the Guard city ​​gates.

For the past 6 years of the Igniting the Fire prayer ministry, several area churches and community members united in prayer at the Will County Courthouse, 100 W. Jefferson Street in Joliet, for the vigil annual prayer meeting of the organization. The group prays for the city of Joliet, local government leaders, surrounding communities, the state of Illinois and the world for God’s guidance, protection, economic stability, love and peace.

Each year at the prayer gathering, the ministry also celebrates a group or individual in the community for their notable achievements. This year, he honored Buffalo Soldiers for their courage, dedication and long-standing commitment to veterans in the community. “The Buffalo Soldiers are not only part of the great military history of our community and the United States, but they are also a proud achievement in Black history,” said Ora Holloway, organizer of the Igniting the Prayer Ministry. Fire. The Buffalo Soldiers were regiments of black soldiers who served in the United States Army from 1866 until the Korean War.

“This Memorial Day, we would like to thank these men and women who lost their lives for our well-being and safety. Your life has not been in vain, thank you for your commitment and courage,” Holloway said.
