Where to find food, shelter and other services

Thursday’s storm left Houston-area residents without power for several days and in need of help. Fortunately, many support networks and local organizations are stepping up to help those affected by the disaster.

Find out where Houston storm victims can find food, shelter and other essential services.

Food

To support families recovering from last week’s severe weather, HISD and the Houston Food Bank will distribute free food and supplies at select Sunrise centers Monday and Tuesday. HISD will provide free food and cleaning supplies to 500 families.

May 20 from 10 a.m.:

  • Brock Sunrise Center: 1417 Houston Avenue.

  • Morefield Sunrise Center: 5950 Selinsky Road.

May 21 from 9 a.m.:

  • Sunrise Center Youth Development Center: 6050 Bretshire Dr.

The following distribution centers will offer ice and water at 10 a.m. and food at 2:30 p.m.. to the residents concerned:

  • Radack Community Center: 18650 Clay Road.

  • Weekley Community Center: 8440 Greenhouse Road. in Cypress

A distribution event will take place today by Kroger providing Houstonians with water, ice, non-perishable food and cleaning supplies including mops, brooms and sponges.

Location: Kroger, 12620 Woodforest Blvd., Houston, Texas 77015

Time: Begins to 3 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m., or while stocks last

THE Spring Branch Boys and Girls Club will be the site of a distribution center opened by Commissioner Briones in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston and the Houston Food Bank. Ice, water, fruit and snacks will be provided by the Houston Food Bank.

  • Health services will be provided on-site by the Spring Branch Community Health Center mobile clinic.

  • Distribution will take place from From May 20 to 22, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Houston Food Bank supplies products to the following locations:

  • Saint Joseph Catholic Church – distribution time to be determined

  • Ministries of assistance to modest areas

  • Jensen Catholic Charities – 8am-10am distribution time

  • HISD Sunrise Center – Brock Elementary School – 10 hours distribution time
