Energy giant announces deal with retail company to bring electric vehicle technology to Houston malls

Two Houston-area shopping centers will benefit from BP’s electric vehicle charging technology through a new global collaboration.

The global energy group will roll out its global electric vehicle charging business, bp pulse, to 75 shopping centres across the country through a partnership with Simon Malls. Two shopping centres in the city, The Galleria and Katy Mills Mall, will soon see bp’s electric vehicle charging Gigahubs. The company will install and operate the chargers at both sites in the region.

The deal aims to provide more than 900 ultra-fast charging bays that will support most makes and models of electric vehicles, with the first locations opening to the public in early 2026. Other Texas Locations include Grapevine Mills in Grapevine and Barton Creek Square in Austin.

“We are thrilled to enter into this agreement with Simon and expand our ultra-fast charging network in the United States,” said Richard Bartlett, CEO of bp pulse, in a press release. “Simon’s portfolio aligns with bp pulse’s strategy to deploy ultra-fast charging across the West Coast, East Coast, Sun Belt and Great Lakes, and we are excited to partner with Simon to provide EV drivers with a range of retail offerings in their impressive destinations.”

Last month, bp pulse opened an electric vehicle charging station at its North American headquarters in Houston. According to bp, the company plans to continue to deploy additional charging points in high-demand locations such as major metropolitan areas, bp-owned properties and airports.

“As a long-term committed infrastructure player with a global network of electric vehicle charging solutions, bp pulse intends to continue to seek out and build transformative industry collaborations in real estate needed to evolve our network and meet the demand of current and future electric vehicle drivers,” added Sujay Sharma, CEO of bp pulse Americas.
