Bills QB Josh Allen Ranks Among NFL Elite In This Impressive Rushing Stat

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen may not be the best rusher among NFL signal-callers, but he is certainly the most unique.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound passer is as good a power runner as his sturdy frame suggests, but he’s surprisingly elusive and agile in the open field. An ever-looming playmaking threat with his arms and legs from any part of the field, a trait that makes him a unique player who is one of the most dynamic in the league.

He is a lot different He’s a more gifted athlete than Lamar Jackson or Jalen Hurts, but his mobility is just as effective. He’s rushed for 3,611 yards and 53 touchdowns throughout his professional career, with his 15 rushing touchdowns in the 2023 NFL season accounting for a sizable chunk of his league-leading 44 total touchdowns.

Allen’s critics had developed the unfounded belief that the quarterback is not In fact Allen was a talented rusher and the majority of his rushing scores came from the goal line, but a statistic released by football analyst Warren Sharp earlier this month disproved that notion, as Allen doesn’t even rank among the NFL leaders in goal-line scores since the 2021 NFL season. The statistician further illustrated Allen’s ability as a legitimate rusher with a statistic released Monday afternoon, as the quarterback do ranks among the league’s elite in rushing touchdowns scored from outside the 10-yard line since the 2021 campaign.

Allen has six touchdowns from outside the 10-yard line since 2021, which ranks fifth in the NFL. Only running backs and Deebo Samuel rank higher than him, indicating that no quarterback has scored more touchdowns from outside the 10-yard line since 2021.

This statistic further illustrates Allen’s ability to rush to all areas of the field and once again refutes the criticism that he is only good at getting down on the goal line. A significant portion of his rushing touchdowns do indeed come from the red zone, but those scores often require impressive displays of power and athleticism.

Buffalo’s offensive leader has a chance to break a team record in 2024, as he currently sits third all-time in the Bills’ record books for career rushing touchdowns (behind O.J. Simpson at 57 and Thurman Thomas at 65). Allen will need just 13 more rushing touchdowns to claim the record.
