Serial rapist attacks woman he met online, months after being released from prison

A serial rapist faces life in prison after the brutal attack on a defenseless woman he lured to his hotel room just months after his release from prison.

Peter Ramsey, 38, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2012 after brutally beating and raping a lawyer’s secretary he met on an online dating website.

After his release from prison, Ramsey struck again on May 15 this year while staying at a Best Western hotel in Wembley.

The perpetrator offered to help the defenseless woman when she got into trouble on the street and invited her to his hotel room.

There he overpowered the woman, strangled her and forced her to have sex.

On Monday, Ramsey appeared at Harrow Crown Court via video link from Wormwood Scrubs Prison to plead guilty to rape and wilful strangulation.

“This is a rape involving strangulation without fatal consequences,” said prosecutor Usha Shergill.

“It facilitated Mr Ramsey’s actions because it enabled him to overpower and temporarily strangle the plaintiff.”

Judge Noel Lucas KC ordered a “danger assessment report” for Ramsey before sentencing in September and told him: “You are likely to receive a very severe sentence for this repeated rape.”

Ramsey was convicted in 2012 of raping a woman he met the previous August on the dating website plentyoffish.com.

The then 26-year-old former personal trainer knocked out the woman’s front teeth when she refused to kiss him goodnight, leaving her with shocking facial wounds along with 21 other injuries.

Giving evidence at his trial, the woman said they had had a lovely date in Brixton but Ramsey “switched gears” when they arrived at her doorstep.

“I thought I was going to die,” she told Inner London Crown Court.

Ramsey was caught based on DNA evidence and the use of the woman’s stolen Oyster card.

He was found guilty of rape, intentional bodily harm and theft and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

At Monday’s hearing, Ramsey’s attorney David Smith asked the court to intervene to ensure he received additional protection in prison.

“It has now come to light that he is in prison for rape and he is very worried about his safety,” he said.

“Things are starting to be said to him, and we hope the governor will take note and reconsider his status in the general wing.”

Judge Lucas asked that a message be sent to the prison warden stating that Ramsey must be provided with “adequate security” during his time in custody.

The court also heard from Ramsey’s partner, who plans to collect his car as soon as it is released by police.

Ramsey remains in custody pending sentencing for the most recent attack on September 4.
