Cooling centers will open around Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — With extreme heat expected to impact Western New York this week, the City of Buffalo announced the creation of several cooling centers throughout the city.

Temperatures across the region are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s starting Monday and continuing through the week.

“Cooling centers are an important part of our city’s emergency response plan for extreme situations.
heat events. It is especially critical to ensure these sites are open and accessible to people experiencing homelessness or those who do not have adequate air conditioning in their homes,” Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said in a statement from press. “At the cooling centers, people will have access to clean drinking water, a place to cool off and sockets in case they need to charge their phones.”

The city also announced extended hours for wading pools.
