Houston ranger released on bail after being charged with official oppression

HOUSTON (KIAH) — The Houston park ranger accused of targeting gay men to rob them made his first court appearance Wednesday morning.

Joey Ellis is charged with official oppression and posted his bond, which was $33,000.

Houston Parks and Rec says Ellis has been removed from the work schedule and “appropriate action is being taken.”

Ellis, 33, was arraigned Wednesday after being charged with official oppression for forcing a man to strip naked and helping round up gay men on a dating app to do the same thing, according to our partners at press.

Houston police believe there may be other victims and potential victims should call 713-884-3131.
