A man dies in an accident in Weslaco, a woman is in labor

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety said a suspected drunk driver died and his pregnant passenger went into labor when he attempted to pass another vehicle and collided with another vehicle.

The accident occurred at 6:30 p.m. on FM 1015 south of the Mile 5 Line.

DPS officers reported that a gray Toyota Scion, carrying a woman and two passengers, was traveling south on FM 1015. They reported that a black Dodge Charger, carrying a man and woman, was traveling north and attempted to pass other vehicles in a no-passing zone.

They say the driver of the Dodge Charger tried unsuccessfully to return to the northbound lane and collided with the Toyota.

The driver and a passenger of the Toyota were taken to a local hospital with injuries. The pregnant woman in the Dodge Charger was taken to a nearby hospital where she went into labor.

The driver of the Dodge, who police believe was drunk, died at the scene of the accident.
