Water service problems continue to plague Atlanta after multiple water main breaks

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Crews Saturday are still trying to repair several water main breaks that disrupted service and triggered a boil water advisory in central Atlanta.

At least two major water main breaks occurred Friday – one near the intersection of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW and JP Brawley Drive in the morning and another at 11th Street and West Peachtree Street NW overnight . The city said the two breaks are not related.

The first rupture involved a main pipeline that carried a considerable amount of water through the city. He closed several buildings in Atlanta, from countless offices to mainstays like the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium.

According to the city, the break also impacted essential services, causing a drop in water pressure at Grady Memorial Hospital, Emory University Hospital in Midtown and the Fulton County Jail, among others.

Saturday morning, crews could be seen working at the break near Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW. Around 8 a.m., workers lifted what appeared to be part of a pipe from the ground, cheering and then kissing each other.
