The heat really hits you

The heat really hits you

This spring, things are heating up at Buffalo Wild Wings with a brand new sauce. Self-described by the brand as a “perfect blend of sweet and tangy Carolina Gold and fiery chili peppers,” B-Dubs’ Golden Fire Sauce is the latest addition to the fast casual chain’s line of 26 sauces and dry sauces. Golden Fire Wing Sauce is available for a limited time and is exclusive to takeout and delivery.

I was lucky enough to try this new flavor on its release day so we can bring you the hottest version of this new item, straight to your door. I tried the Golden Fire Traditional Wings and the Golden Fire Boneless Wings, both glazed in sauce, and was very impressed. The following spicy review takes into account flavor, heat, and how this new wing sauce balances the two.

Some recommendations are based on direct impressions of promotional materials and products provided by the manufacturer, distributor, etc.

What does Buffalo Wild Wings Golden Fire Sauce taste like?

When my order arrived, my nostrils immediately caught the sweet and tangy scent of Golden Fire sauce. This, much like the initial taste of the sauce, was deceptive. But we will get there shortly.

When first tasting the sauce, I was immediately hit with a tangy barbecue flavor with just a hint of spice. Unlike the one-note Buffalo Wild Wings Honey BBQ, the Golden Fire sauce was tangy and not overwhelmingly sweet. At first glance, I couldn’t believe how delicious it was. Stupidly, I took one of the boneless wings and dipped it directly into my extra container of Golden Fire sauce. Talk about a big mistake. Only a few minutes later, I regretted this decision.

Golden Fire sauce has a slow, creeping heat that will surprise you once you get to two or three wings. As sweet and tangy as it goes down, it’s just as tangy in the minutes that follow. While it’s not the hottest thing I’ve ever tried, this B-dubs sauce certainly left a lingering tingle on my tongue for minutes after I finished my meal. Frequent breaks for water and potato wedges were necessary, but not once did I reach for the milk in my refrigerator. So in terms of heat, this definitely brings it, without crossing the finish line, into unpleasant territory.

How to Buy Buffalo Wild Wings Golden Fire Sauce

Unlike all other Buffalo Wild Wings flavors, this sauce cannot be selected if you have chosen to dine in. The Golden Fire sauce is being touted as a promotion for the chain’s rebranding of its takeout and delivery options, which will now be known as Buffalo Wild Wings GO. This rebranding comes with limited-time offers for delivery and takeout-only customers, the first being Golden Fire Sauce.

This doesn’t mean you have to order directly from a Buffalo Wild Wings store or its app. If you order through Grubhub, DoorDash, or any other delivery service, you’ll be able to select Golden Fire sauce as an option on your boneless or traditional wings. Until the end of April, the chain is running a promotion where you can get six free wings with your order using the code GOWINGS. This would be a great way to add an order of Golden Fire Wings to your regular order of B-buds to try the flavor at no extra cost.

The final verdict

After eating nearly a dozen wings drizzled with Golden Fire sauce, I can say with certainty that I loved it. In fact, it was one of the best Buffalo Wild Wings sauces I’ve tried, and I would happily choose it again. I just wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for people with weak stomachs.

Although my previous description of Golden Fire sauce emphasized the intensity of the sauce, I want to clarify that I personally found these wings to deliver a pleasant level of spiciness. I think a lot of self-proclaimed heat enthusiasts wouldn’t be phased. But I also think it has the potential to encourage more cautious diners to eat a lot of it before its extremely slow heat overtakes you.

Fortunately, the Buffalo Wild Wings menu rates Golden Fire Sauce a heat level of three flames (out of four potential), which I think is apt advertising. If you like the chain’s Mango Habanero sauce, the new Golden Fire brings a comparable level of heat. If you can handle that, try this new hot wing sauce the next time you get a delivery from Buffalo Wild Wings.
