United Police officer hit by suspect’s car, now in hospital

SOUTH SALT LAKE – A police officer was injured and hospitalized Friday after being struck by a suspect’s car, according to the Unified Police Department.

Another police officer and the suspect who collided with the previously mentioned police officer were also injured.

During a press conference, Unified Police Officer Quin Wilkins said officers attempted to arrest federal fugitive Tyson Yellowbear at 249 East Helm Avenue around 5:40 p.m.

Yellowbear reportedly attempted to flee and struck a Unified Police officer who was standing next to his patrol car. Another Unified Police officer then ran into Yellowbear’s pickup truck to stop him.

Wilkins said both officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Yellowbear was arrested and also taken to the hospital.

This case is currently being investigated by the Unified and South Salt Lake Police Departments.
