A man who sexually abused a child has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

Kieron Day denied one count of sexual assault against a child under 13 and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He was found guilty by a jury at Leeds Crown Court and sentenced at the same court on Friday.

In addition to the prison sentence, the 37-year-old, of Woodhead Road, Huddersfield, was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.

Det Sgt Olivia Connor, of West Yorkshire Police, said he had committed “a series of horrific offences against a young and vulnerable child”.

“We are happy that he is now behind bars,” she said.

Officers launched a “very complex” investigation in December 2020 after the victim reported Day’s crime, police said.

Ms Connor added: “I would like to praise the courage of the young victim and his family in reporting his terrible actions and then supporting the complex and thorough police investigation.”
